From San Jose by Bus:

If you are coming from the airport, you can catch a bus from there to San Jose or you can take a taxi. To go by bus, walk out to the street from customs and turn right once you reach the road.

You should see a bus stop there with different routes stopping; make sure you get on the bus headed for San Jose. The bus will drop you off at the Tuasa bus terminal in San Jose.

From there, you need to walk to the Comtrasuli bus terminal located on Avenida 1 between Calle 16 and Calle 18 in central San Jose. Buses to Puriscal from Comtrasuli leave frequently so there should not be a problem catching one.

The ride will take an hour and you will arrive in the central square of Puriscal. The bus to Mastatal leaves from near a “Carnicería”  caddy corner from the Super Mora grocery store at 3 pm every day.

Typically, people are lined up beneath the restaurant that has a large ramp going up to it. There are also two Super Mora grocery stores so make sure you are near the larger one. The bus usually reads “Zapatón” but you should ask the driver where he is going to be sure.

The trip to Mastatal takes two hours. The bus will drop you off in the center of town. If you notified us that you are going to arrive on a specific day then Marcos or another volunteer will meet you at the bus. If not, it is about a 5 minute walk to Finca Siempre Verde.

Walk right towards San Miguel and follow the road past the soccer field and to the left past the school. You will pass one intersection and then you will reach the first driveway on your left.

Walk up that driveway towards the 2 houses and someone will welcome you. The bus does not run from Puriscal to Mastatal on Sundays.

From the Coast by Car:

First you need to get to the town of Parrita which is in between the towns of Quepos and Jacó, about 30 kilometers from each.

About 5 kilometers west of Parrita, take the road with a sign pointing to Puriscal. This road will bring you through Vista del Mar, La Gloria and Guarumal.

When you first begin on this road, you will come to what looks like a fork, make sure you stay straight and do not turn left. You will pass through La Gloria and continue straight for about a half hour when you will reach an intersection with two signs here and a small bus stop.

Make a right hand turn, and continue. You will pass a bridge and will arrive in the town of Mastatal within 5 minutes.

When you arrive in Mastatal, you will see a sign pointing towards Zapatón on the left and San Miguel on the right. Follow the road to the right towards San Miguel.

You will pass a soccer field on your right and when you come to the school at the end of the street, make a left. Follow the road up pass one intersection and you will see the entrance to Finca Siempre Verde on your left after the first driveway that comes after the intersection.

From here, you can either walk 6 km to Mastatal, hitchhike, or wait for the bus to Mastatal that passes by at approximately 4:35 p.m, if you are taking the afternoon bus. When you arrive in Mastatal, you will see a sign pointing towards Zapatón on the left and San Miguel on the right. Follow the road to the right towards San Miguel.
